TAITE MUSIC PRIZE FINALISTS LIPS CELEBRATE 8.5 MONTHS OF I DON’T KNOW WHY I DO ANYTHING WITH NEW VID + OTHER TREATS

A significant anniversary of an album release is really something worth celebrating, and that is why Lips are delighted to announce that their debut full-length album I Don't Know Why I Do Anything has been out 8-and-a-half months today! To celebrate, the band have planned an entire WEEK of festivities and treats.

Out today is a fresh new video for 'Not Today' (voted top 21 songs of '21 by influential LA radio station KCRW), directed by Lips drummer Fen Ikner. The clip sees the character of Lips, for whom the band is named, discovering and following a rope which leads her on a surprising journey across Tāmaki Makaurau.

Not one but two new remixes of tracks from the album will also be released across the course of the next week: 'Heave Ho!' by DJ Sweat, and 'What The Hell' by the band's very own spacemaude. The tracks will be released at random intervals on Lips' social media channels, along with inside scoops and special giveaways.

Lips were recently announced as a finalist in the 2022 Taite Music Prize. They have been nominated for I Don't Know Why I Do Anything, which as you know is 8-and-a-half months old today.

I Don't Know Why I Do Anything is available for sale as a vinyl LP and digital album via Bandcamp.

ARTIST BIO

Lips is a four-piece band led by Steph Brown and Fen Ikner. Lips won the coveted Silver Scroll award in 2012 for their debut single 'Everything To Me' and subsequently released two EPs and several singles, garnering praise from online publications such as The Needle Drop and The New LoFi, before disappearing into the world of theatre and film, not to be heard from for several years. (In brief: they toured internationally as musical directors and performers in award-winning musical stageplay Daffodils, and later did the music direction and score for a feature film version of the play that starred Kimbra and Rose McIver).

In 2019, eager to get back to playing original music, Brown and Ikner recruited two superstar musicians, Ruby Walsh and Maude Morris to join the band, and released 'Guilty Talk' – a single mixed by UMO’s Kody Nielson, which went to Number 1 on NZ’s Student Radio Network. 2020 and Covid led them to finally finish their long-awaited debut album I Don’t Know Why I Do Anything, which was released on 16 July 2021. They toured across Aotearoa and also performed a live set for LA's famed KCRW School Night as part of their ongoing series School Night At Home.
